The children worked on their plays all week, we presented them today. In JH2 have some great actors and readers. Our best actor went to Evie Phillips.

For the last few weeks we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and how it presents itself in people's lives. For our assessment we shared with each other times when we have noticed the Holy Spirit in each other. We are all tapu and it was a lovely end to our learning seeing and feeling the Holy Spirit working among us in our classroom.

These are some photos of Junior Hub 2 taking part in Science involving the life cycle of a seed with Sophia the education officer from the Community Gardens. We had fun acting out the seed germination process and then we had to crack a code related to our topic of seeds. We also got to sing a seed song which was lots of fun. Sophia will be in our class till the end of term.

On May 31st Room Tui shared the Gospel presentation at Mass. The Gospel message was - Jesus said "I am the bread of life". At Mass we receive Jesus through the Eucharist and the Word of God. After receiving Jesus we are called to be Him in the world. We can see Jesus working in each other through the fruits of the spirit.
"We've got Spirit, how 'bout you?"

Mrs Tofia from the University of Otago came to visit and teach us about the coconut this week. We heard the myth/legend of how the 'face' on the coconut came to be - ask me at home and I'll tell you all about it :)
Mrs Tofia shared with us some tricks of where to hit the coconut to crack it evenly and we watched as Mrs McRae & Mrs Herbst tried to crack the coconut with a knife - but it was too hard! Finally Mrs Tofia cracked them and we were able to taste the coconut water...some of us liked it more than others.
Once they had been cracked open Mrs Tofia got out some special wooden planks with scrapers attached to the end and she showed us the technique for scraping the flesh out. We all had a turn and it was so much fun - you have to be very careful not to scratch yourself!
Once we had enough coconut flesh we were able to use a special type of 'straw' from a banana tree to make the coconut cream. We wet the 'straw', put a lump of coconut flesh in the middle - wrapped it up as best we could and SQUEEZED as hard as we could..The coconut cream poured out and we got to drink that too :)
It was an amazing experience for all of us and it was cool to see some of our own children from Tonga sharing their knowledge as well. Thanks Mrs Tofia!

We have spent some time orientating ourselves with our group boxes with some new maths games to begin the term. We wanted to make sure we knew how to play them properly so we can confidently practice our maths skills independently when our rotations begin. We love maths!

Near the end of last term we were lucky to have Harold visit us at school. He taught us all about being safe, being a good friend and about our feelings. His classroom was so amazing! It even had star lights in the roof AND the lights changed to every colour you could think of!Thanks Harold for the visit, we can't wait to catch up again when we are older :)

On Wednesday afternoons we are lucky to have Laura come and teach us about gardening.
- We have learnt about germination
- We have planted seeds for carrots, leeks and radishes among others
- We have collected seeds from plants in our garden to dry out for replanting
- We harvested the garlic we planted last year and replanted some of the bulbs for this year
We love getting out there and tending to our school garden and we can't wait to see what will grow this year.
Below are some of the amazing video links Laura has shared with us in our learning...

On Monday 5th February the Sport Activators came to have some fun with us - helping us to develop some fundamental skills which will help us as we grow and pick up techniques used for different sports.
We played "Flip Hoop" where we had to use our hand-eye co-ordination to get an object into our hoop. If we achieved the shot we could flip our hoop over so it was further away and then attempt again at a greater distance, some of us almost got to the other side of the hall!
After this we played "Turtle Tag" which required us to work together as a team and be aware of our surroundings. This was so much fun, most of us chose this as our favourite activity of the day.
Thanks Sport Activators for coming to teach us some awesome new games and skills.
We have spent a bit of time learning about our 'Superhero' theme and what this means for us in Room Tui. Since starting school we have been working on a couple of different superhero themed art works and discussing what 'super powers' we have.
Please come and check out our finished 'Welcome Wall' at the entrance to our class to see what these 'powers' are - you might find you have these powers too!
We also have some amazing superhero paper/dye art hanging in our class for you to enjoy...Here is a preview of some of us creating our art...

This afternoon Kiwi class used water colour paints to create our unique balloon. Under the balloons it says, "I’m off to great places! This year I hope to..." We are writing something we want to achieve this year. Watch out for these on the wall soon.
